2009 Filing Season
The deadline to submit your 2009 Income tax return via e-Filing is 20
November 2009. Make sure you submit your return in time to avoid
penalties!
SARS required that all persons completing and submitting any SARS forms,
or rendering tax advice for reward, register as a Tax Practitioner.
The main reason behind this is to reduce mistakes on forms to the
minimum to enable SARS to process the relevant returns in the shortest
possible time. Individuals can still complete and submit their own
forms should they choose to, but SARS prefer them making use of a Tax
Practitioner. Should you need assistance with completing your tax
return, you can contact SARS on 0860 12 12 18.
SARS will not be mailing any Tax Returns for the 2008 tax season.
Returns can be submitted on e-Filing, or you can request a manual return
from SARS should you require one.
SKMC is a registered Tax Practitioner with SARS (Reg. No: PR-8C5F683).

Salary Structuring
The new year usually means salary adjustments to employees. Make
sure that you meet all the legal requirements for salary structuring to
avoid possible penalties for tax evasion!
Make sure that you address (at least) the following items in your
employment contracts to avoid any legal action against you.
-
You must describe the salary structure in full.
Mention the basic salary, allowances, fringe benefits, commission
structures and criteria for annual bonus. Put a monetary value
to each if at all possible.
-
You must mention the rates at which the
employer/employee will contribute to the various benefit funds (such
as medical aid, provident and pension funds).
-
If an employee requires special tools, who will
provide and pay for them.
